Last time we published a consolidated list of best tablets below 10k, 15k and 20k. However, the time have changed now and we have couple of good Tablet PCs in all price range. Find below our first hand collection of top Tablets you can consider buying if you have a budget of Rs. 15000.
1. Amazon Kindle Fire: Rs. 13,900
Amazon Kindle Fire is one of the best affordable tablets around, but with a loads of limitations (especially while using in India). The IPS display is great and delivers good experience while watching movies, reading ebooks etc. Its powered by 1 Ghz dual core processor which is also rarely found in sub 15k tablets.
However there are some limitation if you want to use it in India. You won’t be able to download any apps from Amazon App store if you don’t have a billing address in US and there is no Android market available on tablet by default. So you will need to do some hacks in order to download apps from Android market and other sources. Consider reading this review written by Gaurav before finalising your purchase.
Features:
- 7-inch, 1024 x 600px, capacitive display with IPS
- Android 2.3 customized OS
- 8GB inbuilt storage, Free cloud storage for content purchased from Amazon

2. Blackberry Playbook (Wi-Fi, 16 GB): Rs. 12,607 (On Poorvika)
Sometime selling for around 25k, Blackberry Playbook has seen a massive price drop. The specifications are promising considering the price. The overall performance and reviews of this tablet is awesome. However there are 2 major issues which you should be aware of before making a purchase.
Blackberry Playbook works best when bridged to a Blackberry Mobile. So buy it only if you have a BB (or planning to buy one). Else the usability will be limited.
Next issue is lack of apps. The Blackberry App world has very limited apps. However an operating system upgrade (known as OS 2.0) is scheduled by Feb end which will enable Blackberry playbook tablet to support most of the Android Apps.

Just came across this blog. Even though my question is not entirely related to tablets…Since this post is the active one right now I’ll ask it here.
I’m in a bit of a quandary. I need a good device for purely reading purposes (PDFs). I know there’s the Amazon Kindle and it is available through online shopping sites like Indiatimes, India plaza.etc. But I’ve read quite a few bad reviews about these sites. It’s not available on Flipkart. There’s also the risk of buying a defective piece and being unable to return it. And I won’t be able to transfer a lot of PDFs from my laptop as the space is limited to 3GB.
Tablets seem a costly option as my price range is max 15K and the tablets reviewed above have some serious shortcomings. Also, I’m hesitant to buy a bulky device for reading.
Could you suggest some Smartphones in the 15K range with a large screen and PDF compatibility (I want to read the page as it is with enough clarity and don’t want to constantly swipe left and right). I guess there is an Android app for that? I’m considering the Moto Defy. Could you suggest some options for my requirements?
Thanks.
P.S. – Sorry for the slightly OT post. Would appreciate it if you could answer.
